Breen to tackle Suirway Mondello Rallysprint in Metro 6R4

The 2020 Suirway Group Rallysprint Championship will kick off in just over a weeks time at Mondello Park. Today Mondello Park confirmed that WRC star Craig Breen will top the entry list, at the wheel of the iconic Group B Metro 6R4. The entry list already includes some well known Irish Rallying talent and a good entry of R5 and WRC cars, with classes all the way down to cater for Junior drivers too, who will no doubt be delighted to share the entry list with Ireland’s WRC star.
Breen, along with the other competitors, will tackle Mondello Park’s 7km stage a number of times during the day, and despite the age of his machinery, will surely be aiming for overall victory at this, his home event in 2020.

Roddy Greene, Mondello Park: “We are looking forward to starting this Suirway Championship next week. Interest has been good and certainly announcing Craig’s participation today will help this even more. It is a shame that so many rallies have had to be postponed but we feel we can offer competitors and crews a safe environment to get out and compete- something they have not been able to do for some time.”

A number of well known rallying names had already thrown their names in the hat with Rob Barrable and Cathan McCourt both entered in R5 cars. The WRC entries, which include Derek McGeehan in the MINI WRC, will also be joined by Craig Breen’ father Ray. The former National Rally Champion will field his newly acquired 08 Focus WRC and the father/son battle will definitely be one to watch!
The Rallysprint regulations cater for all rally classes, including a Junior class, with a number of newcomers intending to make their motorsport debuts at the opening round. The first round of the series takes place at Mondello Park on October 18th and entries, priced at just €210, are still open on mondellopark.ie.
