VIDEO- UK RAC #FF1600 Championship Action from Kirkistown in 1988!

The UK FF1600 series returned to the high speed Kirkistown circuit in Northern Ireland in 2017, and produced some superb racing at the former airfield venue.

Thirty years ago though, the RAC FF1600 UK series, with all the works teams and a star studded cast. Happily it was televised and the coverage includes an opening interview with Martin Donnelly, who by this stage had graduated to British F3.

Derek Higgins, originally from Dublin, had landed the plum works Duckhams Van Diemen drive and there was plenty of talk about a super strong engine in the back of his RF88. His competition included the incredibly quick former world karting champion Vincenzo Sospiri, also Van Diemen mounted, Richard Dean in the works Swift, Brazilian José Cordova in the works Reynard,  Pedro Chaves from Portugal. Jonathan McGall is in the works Mondiale whilst Fionn Murray represents Crossle and Bernard Dolan is also Mondiale mounted. As you would expect, it is action packed from the start…..  Sospiri and McGall star- but luck is not not with either of them…
