Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of The Year Cian Carey got his 2017 season back on track with a series of fighting performances over the weekend at the famous Silverstone circuit, best known as the home of the British Grand Prix.
Finishing qualifying in fifth place, the Meath man was confident of making improvements before race one. A few adjustments to the rear end of the Mooretown Engineering Dallara by the Chris Dittmann Racing team ahead of race one team made a marked improvement as he climbed to third and challenged for the lead mid race. At the flag, Cian was a close fourth, but was confident that the improvements had worked. This was borne out in the second of three races over the weekend, as Cian charged to third place, delighted with his podium finish and keen to improve again in race three.
As he had predicted, the 2016 BOSS Ireland Champion was a force to be reckoned with from the off in the final race of the weekend. He grabbed the lead and stayed out front for 16 laps until a small error allowed Wade Eastwood through. Cian fought back though, and crossed the line right on the leader’s gearbox to take his second podium of the weekend.
These results have now vaulted the Irish driver to third in the title standings with twelve rounds of the series still to run.
