Paddy Hopkirk’s Monte winning Mini to star at Dalkey Vintage Festival – Motorsport.ie

The ‘Dublin Riviera’ will play host to a piece of motoring history from its French equivalent this August Bank Holiday Monday when the Dalkey Vintage Festival takes place.
The event in the South Dublin village showcases many of Ireland’s best classic cars. This year the undoubted star of the show will be the 1964 Mini Cooper that won the Monte Carlo Rally. Also making an appearance will be Paddy Hopkirk, the car’s owner and driver in that famous race in the French Riviera principality of Monaco.
Dublin motorsport legend Alec Poole, who won the 1969 British Touring Car Championship in a Mini Cooper S, will also be there.
In all, dozens of classic cars will be on show at the festival, with many taking visitors and families for rides around Dalkey and the surrounding area in returns for a donation to charity.
This is second year of the Dalkey Vintage Festival, which is in aid of the Down Syndrome Centre. Last year more than €5,000 was raised for the charity, which helps provide services to the carers and families of people with Down Syndrome. Organisers are determined to beat that total this year!
The event takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 3, from 12 noon in the church car park in Dalkey, with live music provided by jazz band The Hot Club of Dublin from 4pm.
