Busy Busy! Rallycross Blog with Peter McGarry

2015 started in usual fashion….hungover! But the plan in terms of Motorsport was pretty much the same as the previous year, a full assault on the Irish 8v Stockhatch Championship in my Peugeot 205, a trip to Pembrey in Wales in the summer for a double header of the BTRDA Rallycross championship, a few rounds of the ITCC in my 2.0 205 and then hire a Fiesta with the Stockhatch lads again for the 6 hour Endurance race and try to improve on last years performance.

Off the track, I was asked by the Rallycross Committee to come on board as drivers representative which I happily accepted. I believe the future is bright for Irish Rallycross with the introduction of a new track in Tynagh, Galway and the visit of the MSA British Rallycross Championship at the end of June which is already showing some massive interest from some World rallycross teams. We have also been given the green light to include the Black Church Fiestas into rallycross for the first time with there own heats and finals on the second day of the british round in Mondello on the 28th of June.

Racing started last month in Mondello and with the help of our team PK Motorsport, I secured a second place finish which was a good start to the season. As the next round of the IRX is not until May, myself and a few others decided to make the trip over to Blyton for the first round of the BTRDA Rallycross Championship last weekend. Declan Nolan kindly gave me a lend of his 2014 16 valve Peugeot 106 championship winning car to have a go at some of the British Modifieds. With Declan’s final words being ‘Drive her on to f*”k!’ as we loaded it onto the ferry, I went and did just that, finishing 1st in the 1600 modified class and 5th overall.
After that result, and a quick look at the BTRDA standings, my initial plan has now slightly changed and I’m now going to do both the Irish and British Rallycross championships!
With a new supercharged 2.0 modified car being readied for the remainder of the BTRDA rounds,  next up in the IRX series is a trip to Galway on the 10th of May for the first Rallycross event seen in the west of Ireland, I’m really looking forward to this years calendar.
