Oliver Meredith Crowned 2026 Motorsport Ireland Rotax Mini MAX Champion

11-year-old Dubliner secures Irish title after hard-fought season and earns Team Ireland place at Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals!

Oliver Meredith has been crowned the 2026 Motorsport Ireland Rotax Mini MAX Champion after a dramatic season that saw him recover from a difficult mid-season spell to return to winning form and secure the Irish title with one round still remaining. The 11-year-old established himself as a championship contender from the outset, winning the opening two rounds of a highly competitive nine round series. With a strong field of young Rotax drivers competing throughout the season at circuits across the island of Ireland, the championship would prove to be a demanding test of consistency and pace.

However, the route to the title was far from straightforward. A difficult spell in the middle of the season saw Oliver lose valuable championship points after a couple of disappointing rounds. His team subsequently identified a technical issue affecting the kart’s performance. Once the issue was resolved, Oliver responded immediately, returning to winning form with victory in Round 5 at Whiteriver Park, Co. Louth. International experience in Le Mans During the summer break, Oliver competed internationally at the Rotax MAX Challenge International Trophy in Le Mans, France, lining up against some of the strongest young Rotax drivers from around the world.

One of the highlights came in the Super Heat, when Oliver fought his way from 20th on the grid to fourth, battling at the front of an international field that included recently signed Red Bull Young Driver Robin Räikkönen. Returning to Ireland, Oliver continued his strong run of form with competitive performances in Round 6 at Athboy, Co. Meath, and Round 7 at Nutts Corner, Co. Antrim. Title secured at Kiltorcan Oliver arrived at Kiltorcan Raceway, Co. Kilkenny, for Round 8 on September 5-6 with a narrow championship lead and everything still to play for. After qualifying third for the Final, he produced a determined drive through the field, working his way to the front before pulling clear of his rivals. He took the chequered flag just over a second ahead to claim a crucial victory. A post-race penalty for his closest championship rival subsequently confirmed that Oliver had accumulated enough points to secure the championship with one round still remaining. The result made Oliver the 2026 Motorsport Ireland Rotax Mini MAX Champion, adding the Irish title to a season that has also seen him gain valuable experience on the international stage.

“Winning the Motorsport Ireland Rotax Mini MAX Championship is an amazing feeling,” said Oliver. “It has been a really tough season and there were times in the middle of the year when things weren’t going our way, so to come back from that and win the championship makes it even more special. The win at Kiltorcan was a great moment. We knew we had to push hard and I just focused on getting to the front and doing everything I could to win the Final. Le Mans was also an amazing experience. Racing against drivers from all over the world and getting from 20th to fourth in the Super Heat gave me a lot of confidence. Team Ireland bound for Portugal

The championship victory earns Oliver a place at the 2026 Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals, where he will represent Team Ireland against national champions from around the world. The prestigious event takes place in Portimão, Portugal, from November 7-14, bringing together leading Rotax drivers from across the globe. It will give Oliver another opportunity to compete on the international stage following his impressive showing in Le Mans earlier this year.

Now in his fifth year of kart racing, Oliver comes from a family with deep roots in the sport. His father, Niki Meredith, below, is a former Irish National Karting Champion, making Oliver a third-generation kart racer.
