Tohill takes British & Irish Rallycross Points Lead with Mondello Victories
No less than three victories in a challenging weekend at Mondello Park for the PFCRX team and driver Derek Tohill resulted in the lead of both the British and Irish Rallycross Championships at a critical point of the year [October 4-5].
Former Irish, British and European Rallycross Champion Tohill entered the penultimate weekend of the campaign lying second in the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy standings, while the Irish series also got it’s 2025-2026 season underway at the same event with Tohill targeting a record 10th crown.
With a strong performance through the qualifying races on the opening day, in challenging mixed weather conditions, Tohill claimed semi-final victory to qualify on pole position for the Supercar final, in which he finished second in a race of mixed tyre strategies, driving the PFCRX Peugeot 208 WRX. Then, in the final race of the day, the Irish RX Superfinal, Tohill used a front-row start to good effect, launching into the lead at turn one and never looking back, to take the race win.
On Sunday, with teams and spectators alike treated to more consistent, dry conditions, Tohill made the best start from third on the grid for the Supercar final and, in a final-lap joker strategy shoot-out for victory, maintained the advantage to take a critical win and move into the 5 Nations BRX championship lead with just two rounds remaining.
In the Superfinal, DA Racing-supported driver Tohill again led throughout the race from the front to secure a second straight win and begin his Irish title-defence in the strongest possible fashion.
The PFCRX team now immediately switches focus to the final round of the French Rallycross Championship at Dreux in France this weekend [October 11-12], where Tohill will join the rest of the DA Racing outfit to conclude a programme of selected French Championship events.
Derek Tohill | Supercar | Peugeot 208 WRX | #777 “I’m delighted for the whole team and all of our many partners after we all put in monumental effort over the past few weeks to pick up strong results in both the British and Irish Rallycross Championships at Mondello. We really enjoyed many intense and clean battles with many drivers over the weekend and we look forward to more of the same at the British Championship finale at Lydden next month. It’s fantastic when RX fans get to witness such great rallycross. A huge thanks to everyone involved in our team, IRX, 5 Nations BRX and of course, Mondello Park for making such a great weekend happen in extremely challenging conditions.
The next stop for us is Dreux this weekend for some more intense French rallycross. I cannot wait to take Sophia [the 208] home.”
