Multiple Rally Champion Sam Moffett Joins SEAT Supercup Grid at Mondello This Weekend
Motorsport fans are in for a treat at Mondello Park this weekend as multiple rally champion Sam Moffett makes his debut in the SEAT Supercup Ireland at Mondello Park. The highly accomplished Monaghan driver, best known for his rallying success at national and international level, will swap the stages for Mondello as he lines up against some of the country’s top touring car drivers at the TengTools ICCR Leinster Trophy race meeting.
Moffett’s entry adds extra excitement to an already competitive grid, with the SEAT Supercup continuing to deliver some of the closest and most entertaining racing in Irish motorsport. While Moffett has built his reputation on rally stages, this is not his first taste of circuit competition. He previously raced in the RT2000 championship, showing the adaptability that has become a hallmark of his career. Now, he takes on the ultra-competitive SEAT Supercup where equal machinery ensures the racing is closer than ever.
Speaking ahead of his debut, Moffett said:
“I’ve always loved the challenge of rallying, but I’m really looking forward to trying something completely different in the SEAT Supercup. The racing is close, the cars are evenly matched, and Mondello always produces a great atmosphere. It should be a fantastic weekend.”
This weekend’s field also features another exciting crossover, with Sean McGovern, the current Fiesta Zetec Championship leader (below), making a switch to the SEAT Supercup. His step up from the popular one-make Fiesta series adds another layer of intrigue as he tests himself against the established SEAT Supercup contenders.
The SEAT Supercup is proudly supported by The Johnstown Estate and Trim Castle Hotel, two of Ireland’s premier hospitality destinations. This weekend’s action also comes at a pivotal stage in the title battle. Just three points separate Max Turley and Victor Cullen at the top of the standings, ensuring every position on track could prove decisive.
SEAT Supercup organisers welcomed the addition of Moffett to the grid, noting that his presence highlights the championship’s appeal across different branches of motorsport. With a 15 car grid, title race finely balanced and a rally champion stepping into the mix, Mondello Park is set for one of the most thrilling weekends of the season.
Action gets underway this Sunday, with qualifying at 9.10 and two Supercup races scheduled for 11.25 & 14:45.
