ON THE TRACK – IAN LYNAS REPORTS AS SCALEXTRIC HONOURS JIM CLARK
Scalextric has paid tribute to Scottish driver Jim Clark who competed in F1 from 1960 to 1968, with the superb Jim Clark Collection Triple Pack.
On his way wining with Lotus he won the World Driver’s Championship on two occasions; at the time of his untimely death at the wheel of a F2 Lotus in Germany he held a number of F1 records, the most race wins 25, 33 pole positions and 28 fastest laps. The quiet spoken Scot was the first non-American in 49 years to win the Indy 500, again with Lotus.
The pack contains two single seater models and a Ford Lotus Cortina, plus information on Clark himself. This is surely a must for all motor racing fans. Born in the Scottish Borders, Clark began his motor sport career in rallying and hillclimbing and while driving for the Border Reivers Team he was spotted by Colin Chapman of Lotus. Driving a Lotus Elite he finished second in class at the Le Mans 24 Hour Race in 1959 and his next switch was to Formula Junior; he won in that series beating seven time World Motorcycle Racing Champion John Surtees.
He also raced with great success in the British Saloon Championship; a driver of outstanding talent. Now thanks to Scalextric it is possible to relive some of the action from a great era in motor racing.
