Ollie O’Donovan commits to 2024 Euro RX programme with unique Iriz RX

Former British Rallycross Champion and FIA European Rallycross Championship podium-finisher Ollie O’Donovan will embark on a full campaign in the Euro RX1 series in 2024, driving Team RX Racing’s unique Proton Iriz RX Supercar. O’Donovan returned to the winners’ circle for the first time since 2018 at the traditional Easter Bank Holiday British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy season-opener at Lydden Hilll, claiming victory in the opening stop of the series.

Now, having driven the unique Iriz RX in the opening round of the Euro RX 2023 campaign in Hungary, 2007 British RX title-winner O’Donovan will return to the five-round series for a full effort in 2024, racing in France, Sweden, Hungary, Belgium and Portugal.

The London-based Irish driver finished on the Euro RX podium in Barcelona in 2017, and will join 20-year-old son Patrick O’Donovan, who was announced yesterday, in the Team RX Racing squad, the cars operated by Sam Clennell Motorsport. The Iriz RX Supercar, a one-of-a-kind machine, made its Euro RX debut ay Nyirad, Hungary in 2022, and claimed its first outright victory at Mondello Park in early 2023 in the hands of Patrick O’Donovan.

Now Ollie O’Donovan will target regular final appearances with the car in the ultra-competitive European Rallycross Championship series, alongside his 5 Nations BRX campaign and gravel rally outings with a Hyundai i20 R5.

Ollie O’Donovan, Team RX Racing Team Principal:
“I have to admit, I was losing my love for racing at this level a couple of years ago, when things were not going so well – but I have been in this game a long time and you have to take the rough with the smooth. Having a strong finish to the British season with the Proton last year, and winning the first round at Lydden Hill last month proved that we have taken steps in the right direction. We have worked hard on the Proton to move it forwards, and we have already committed as a team to Euro RX to give Patrick the best chance possible of fighting for top results, so it makes sense for me to do the full season too in terms of logistics. I have recently been doing a lot more rallying than I have for many years, so that has helped me as a driver, and I can’t wait to get stuck into racing on some amazing rallycross circuits in Euro RX. I want to help Patrick in any way I can with sharing data to help him achieve his goals, but I also want the best results for myself too, so let’s see what happens. I’m not done yet.”
