Dan Harper Set For Unexpected British GT Title Defence
Harper was set to miss out on defending the title he won in spectacular fashion last year alongside Darren Leung in their Century BMW M4 GT3, however a late change of plans will see him line-up on the grid for the season opener this weekend at Oulton Park (30 March-01 April). The Northern Irishman, who produced some mesmerising drives in his debut British GT campaign last year, will be hoping to repeat those heroics this season as he targets back-to-back titles in his new partnership with Johnston.
While his team-mate is stepping up to make his full GT3 debut, Johnston makes the transition with confidence high after winning the GT4 Pro-Am crown last year with Century and completing a productive winter testing programme. Getting their campaign underway with a pair of one-hour races on Easter Monday at Oulton Park, Harper will be hoping to showcase the same pace that saw him qualify on the front row and post the fastest racing lap of the weekend at the circuit last year.
Daniel Harper: “It certainly wasn’t a phone call I was expecting a few days before the start of the season, but I’m delighted to have got it. I loved my time in the British GT Championship last year, racing back in the UK after a few years away, so to be able to do it all over again is very exciting. It’s a quick turnaround to the opening round, but I’m sure we’ll be able to hit the ground running. Michael [Johnston] has shown some very promising pace in pre-season testing with the team and I’m sure with the support of the great Century Motorsport team we’ll foster a strong partnership.”
