Michael Fassbender to tackle Fiesta 6 Hour Race at Mondello This Weekend!

Michael Fassbender is on the entry list for Mondello Park’s annual 6 Hour Endurance Race! Yes, you read that right, the famous actor and sometime race driver is travelling to Ireland this weekend to drive a Siltex Safety Ford Fiesta Zetec against a horde of club and international racers.
He will partner former Grand Prix drivers David Kennedy and Tommy Byrne in a POB Motorsport run car, alongside newly crowned Siltex Safety Zetec champion Michael Barrable and his sons Peter and Rob, who have won this event twice before.
Other names of note include LMP3 driver Lucca Allen, son of celebrity chef Rachel, who will parter with fellow sportscar racer Hampus Ericsson, brother of F1 driver Marcus, along with Dublin motor dealer and experienced racers Bob Cameron.  Experienced UK Racer David Meenan teams up with Graeme Colfer and Matt Dunnion in the GCR car that GT4 star Alex Denning used to win the last two rounds of the championship just a few weeks ago. Denning is also entered, alongside his multiple championhsip winning Dad Liam, Fiesta ST frontrunner Max Turley and Chris Jones.  Murray Motorsport and LOH Motorsport are both previous winners of this event and both have teams running this weekend- they won’t be easily beaten. Michael Cullen, currently heading the Autosport Ireland and UK National race winners list, is keen to add one more win in 2023 and he shares his LOH son Victor and fellow fast father and son pairing of Dave Maguire Snr and Jnr. Eoin Murray lines up in one of his team cars, alongside brother Niall and Race and Autotest Champion Eddie Peterson in what should be another strong combination. The Kellett Motorsport Team have made it a real family affair with championship winning father and son combo of Alastair and William, joining up with novice sister Chloe in the family Zetec racer! In a similar vein, the three Rabbitt brothers Barry, Shane and Keith team up in Keith’s Wrapco car. all three are former race winners and Keith has managed a winning team twice before in this event, so they could well be a factor.  As if that wasn’t competitive enough, another  trio of champions are on the list. Morgan Dempsey and son Jordan are multiple single seater title winners and they join up with former ITCC Champion Ulick Burke in his Tyre Brigade car.

Over 100 drivers making up 21 teams will take to the grid at Mondello Park on Sunday at midday, with the winner taking the chequered flag at 6pm- in the dark. Mondello Park have thrown open the gates of the event to the public for the day, so if you want to see what it’s all about, you won’t have to open your virtual wallet to do so!

The mondello Park 6 Hour Endurance race is supported by Circle K Ireland and competitors are only allowed to use their milesPLUS fuel during qualifying and the race.

For his portrayal as a sex addict in Steve McQueen’s drama Shame (2011) he won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor and was nominated for Golden Globe and BAFTA Award. His role as slave owner Edwin Epps in 12 Years a Slave (2013) earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also starred in The Counselor (2013), Frank (2014), Macbeth (2015), and Steve Jobs (2015). For portraying the title role in the latter, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Fassbender began competing in auto racing in 2017 with the Ferrari Challenge. As of 2023, he races in the European Le Mans Series, driving for Proton Competition. He has been married to Swedish actress Alicia Vikander since 2017. Source- wilkipedia
