Denning Gets To Show His Pace at European GT4 Finale
Alex Denning has had a tough debut sportscar season. His pace, since his ST Championship win here at home and his Rookie MINI Challenge title in the UK last year, is unquestioned, but as we all know, this is a cruel sport at times.
Through no fault of his own, he was caught up in a high speed shunt in Monza early in the season and, having sat out the following round, changed to the Elite Motorsport squad to drive one of their Artura GT4 McLarens. An incredible qualifying lap in Spa, when a red flag meant there was time for just a single flier, posted notice of Alex’s pace, when he suddenly appeared P2 on the timesheets. Unfortunately it was wet on raceday and the McLaren is not at its best when the rain falls, meaning he, and the other similarly mounted drivers, dropped back in the race.

Alex is not one to give up, however, and having invited some of his corporate partners to the final race weekend of the championship, was in a determined mood in the days leading up to the event. He was immediately on the pace and in qualifying looked set to snatch pole position when he encountered traffic, having just gone fastest in sector one and two. Undaunted, he still managed an impressive P3, just .193 off pole position on his first visit to the Barcelona circuit. He continued to impress all weekend, taking fourth overall in race one, and third in Silver, followed by an incredible P2 overall in race two.
Alex Denning “I’m lost for words after a fantastic weekend. In what has been such a difficult season, I have never given up. My highlight of the weekend would have been putting it on pole. I was on for pole position overall by nearly half of a second- which would have been the biggest pole margin all year. However, another slower driver got in my way at the end of the lap.
The circuit is fantastic. You have to be inch perfect and ultra committed to get the maximum from your package. This result genuinely means so much to me and has certainly raised a few eyebrows for next season.
A special thank you to all at Elite Motorsport for a mega car all weekend, to McLaren Customer Racing for their excellent support and to my wonderful network of corporate partners for their continued trust and support all throughout this year.”
