BMW Motorsport Confirms British GT Programme for Daniel Harper!

BMW M Motorsport works driver Daniel Harper will make a long-awaited return to British motorsport this season as he contests a debut campaign in the British GT Championship.

Four years on from his title-winning season in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, the talented Northern Irishman will once again tackle a domestic race programme as he teams with leading squad Century Motorsport to pilot their BMW M4 GT3 alongside Darren Leung.

Century have been a leading force in British GT for a number of years and have twice won the GT4 class title with BMWs. They secured their first ever GT3 win in the 2022 season finale, a result made even more special with it coming in Leung’s first ever GT3 race start.

Harper linked up with Century and Leung for the first time back in December as they contested the Gulf 12 Hours in the M4 GT3. After a promising run together in Abu Dhabi, BMW have elected to reunite them for a full season of racing in the ultra-competitive domestic championship.

Harper’s British GT drive will be part of a busy and exciting 2023 campaign for the 22 year old talent, as he embarks on his first season as part of BMW’s official roster of professional factory drivers after graduating from the BMW Junior Team.

It was confirmed last month that Harper will once again be tackling the Nürburgring 24 Hour race this year, sharing a BMW Team RMG prepared M4 GT3 with his former BMW Junior Team colleagues Max Hesse and Neil Verhagen, whilst further race plans are set to be announced soon.

Daniel Harper: “I’m delighted to have got this opportunity to join the British GT Championship grid with Century Motorsport. Over the last few years, I’ve had lots of people asking me about when I’d be back racing over here, so I’m really looking forward to competing on all the great British circuits again. I had a great time working with Century and Darren [Leung] in Abu Dhabi, so I’m looking forward to being back with them. Both myself and the team have a year of experience with the BMW M4 GT3 now, so we’re ready to hit the ground running in pre-season testing and hopefully be at the sharp end of the grid this season.”

Nathan Freke, Century Motorsport Team Principal: “When we worked with Dan in the Gulf 12 Hours, he was super professional and just fit into the team perfectly. His speed is clear and our view is that he is only going to get faster. To have the support from BMW with Dan as the factory driver just further strengthens our campaign. We have an extensive test schedule with our aim be in the championship fight come the final round of the championship and we see Dan as an important part of that plan.”

Widely regarded as one of the most competitive domestic GT championships in the world, British GT runs to a two-class format for GT3 and GT4 machinery. A seven-event calendar for 2023 features nine races, ranging from one to three hours in length. The championship visits the leading circuits in the UK, including Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Donington Park, alongside an overseas round at Algarve in Portugal. Each race will be streamed live globally across YouTube and Facebook.
