British GT Podium for Tom Edgar at Donington

Round 4 of the British GT Championship took place at Donington Park recently,  with the second 3 hour race of the season. Belfast driver Tom Edgar was once again on the grid, driving for the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK team. The former karter and Ginetta Junior winner was hoping to capitalize on the strong pace shown earlier in the season, with a strong result.

Tom was teamed up with Jordan Collard and their combined qualifying times put them 23rd on the grid, but more importantly 5th in the GT4 class.

It was shaping up to be quite the battle to push forward, so with Tom doing the first stint, he went out to see what he could do. A safety car after just 32 minutes saw everyone dive into the pit lane for a driver change, with Tom finishing his first stint in 4th, while Jordan’s first first stint maintained that  4th place.

Following refuelling, Tom exited the pits for his second stint in P7, battled his way up to P5, then with 43 minutes left in the race, gave the car back to Jordan for the final charge of the race – then all he could do was sit back and watch!

With 32 minutes left on the clock Jordan was in P6 and fighting hard as the team looked on in anticipation. With some outstanding overtaking he made up two places and with 13 minutes left on the clock, successfully outmanoeuvred an Aston Martin to gain P3 – the position he would hold until the chequered flag-giving both drivers a visit to the British GT podium!

Tom Edgar: “I’m delighted with the podium at Donington – it really is a great result and boosts our confidence for the rest of the season. I’d like to thank the team and Jordan for an amazing job and I can’t wait for the next race at Snetterton!”
