BELFAST’S YOUNG STAYS COOL TO TOP CLIO CUP POINTS AHEAD OF BRANDS HATCH FINALE

Jack Young’s increasing maturity and experience on the race track shone through at Silverstone on the penultimate weekend of the Renault UK Clio Cup. With just 4 points separating the Top 2 championship contenders at the start of the weekend, it was a case of avoiding mistakes and absorbing the pressure.
Jack went on to produce two fantastically mature races with controlled precision and in keeping cool under pressure turned the 4 point deficit into a 15 point lead heading into the final championship round.
“I knew that I just needed to keep my cool, keep the pressure on and be patient this weekend,” said Jack afterwards. “The short and fast nature of the circuit meant all the leading cars were bumper to bumper for the majority of the races. This delivered intense scenes and was a case of snakes and ladders for most of us. Despite getting shuffled back to P4, I was proud of my performance.”
Young crossed the line 4th in Race 1 on Saturday and collected bonus points for the fastest lap to remain in close contention for the Championship. Race 2 followed on Sunday as Jack took the lead early on and went on to deliver a confident and flawless race as the chasing pack ran thesmselves into drama.
Jack now sits top of the standings heading to Brands Hatch in October with a 15 point advantage.
“The stage is set for the finale” laughed Jack. “It’s been back and forward at the top of the Championship all season long. Now it’s down to the final two races, which is great for the drivers, spectators and sponsors. MRM have given me such a reliable car all year and I’ll be putting my faith in this . It’s going to be a fierce weekend but I’m determined to bring myself to the next level in performance between now and then. Anything can happen over the course of an event I’m taking nothing for granted.”
The final round of the Renault UK Clio Cup will take place at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit on October 12th – 13th 2019.
