Condell Heads 80 Entries for The Imokilly Mini Stages Rally!

The roads are picked, most of the work is done and now it’s just one last push for the Imokilly Motor Club to get their event over the line .The hard work put in over the past 6 months has paid off and over 80 entries have been received for the Imokilly Mini Stages Rally on Sunday the 21st of July sponsored by Ollie Kierce Cars . Rally HQ for the weekend is the Park Hotel Midleton with Scrutiny, Parc Ferme and service just across the road in Market Green.

Number 1 on the road is last year’s winner David Condell / Paul Kelly Escort Class 14   David is probably driving at his best and is match fit from competing on the Tarmac Championship! He would love to make it two in a row .

Number 2 is Gary Kiernan in a Class 14 Escort. He is one of the quickest Escort men in the country.  A winner in 2015 and 2017, Gary wont be hanging round!

Number 3 is Richard Moore in a Class 14 Escort. He showed a stunning pace on the recent Waterford Rally if he can repeat that form could well be in contention for a win.

Number 4 is David Guest in a Super 2000 Skoda. The Skoda may lack the top speed to keep up with the big bang Escorts but that wont stop David from giving it his all!

Number 5  is Vincent McSweeney in a  Mitsubishi Evo7 class 20. A hugely talented driver  gets the best out of this older car, he always drives at 100% dand could be a dark horse for the win ,

Number 6  Tomas Davies  Escort Class 14. The Welsh driver came last year, loved the event and is back. Having impressed with his speed, he just could be another dark horse for the win.

Number 7 is Colin Byrne   Escort Class 14 First of the IMC Drivers, he will be able to mix it with this company and should challenge for a podium place.

Number 8 Mark Dolphin Escort Class 14. The second of the IMC crews on the road will be in the hunt for top IMC Crew award.

Number 9 is Brian O’Keeffe in a Mitsubishi Evo9 class 4.  Brian likes the fast stages and he should get a chance to get the most out of the Evo so will also be in the mix for top IMC crew ,

Number 10 is Jason Ryan Honda Civic class 11f. Jason drives at a hectic pace should push into the top 10 at the finish but may struggle against the more powerful cars. He is, however,  always a class contender.

Late entries:
Frank Kelly Escort Class 14 always a great addition to any rally Frank and his “Baby Blue” Escort are known throughout   the world for the exuberant and totally committed driving style. Frank is a joy to watch in the Escort with a no nonsense flat out style, he is the driver the crowd come to watch. Always in the hunt for the win, too!

Tom Flaherty Class 14 Escort. Tom, fresh from a good result in Sligo, could well finish in the top 5 stylish driver to watch.

Factor in the 1600 battle of class 11 F and R cars of the locals of course and there should be plenty of excitement. Chasing Jason Ryan hard are Allen Treacy (Twincam),  James Fitzgerald (Honda)  and Gary Kelly (Honda). Interesting to see how impressive young Kerry driver Peter Falvey mixes it with the locals in his rapid Starlet.. Keep an eye out for one of our quickest Junior Drivers  Cian Walsh  going in the main field for this event he has a Class 11r twin cam.
Our Junior drivers battle for the junior prize the battle should be intense with Barry Archer, JJ Williams and Anthony o Driscoll to name but a few ,

The event follows the format of 2 stages 3 times with service after 2 and 4 in Midleton and the finish back at Midleton Park Hotel, all the information times stage maps etc is available in the rally programme so please go and buy one and support the event.

The club is hugely thankful for the support of our main sponsor Ollie Kierce Cars our Associate Sponsors, stage sponsors and any one who advertised in the programme this event is a big undertaking for the club both financially and from a logistics point of view , we depend on voluntary help on the day from our neighbouring motor clubs and rally enthusiasts to man various positions on the day without this help the rally would not run, so if you would like to marshal on the day get in touch with the motor club.

Clerk of the Course Pat Maguire said a lot of effort put in over the last few months thanks to our sponsor’s in particular Ollie Kierce Cars and all who contributed to help cover the cost of the rally, thanks to the competitors who came from all over Ireland and the uk now we need help over the weekend on Friday Saturday and Sunday to both set up and to run the event.

The action takes placed on closed public roads. Stage 1 Mount Uniacke and Stage 2 Ballintotis  there will be extra traffic on the road with rally cars returning to Midleton for both services and the finish .

The Imokilly Motor Club would like to appeal to evey one to slow down on the public roads arrive in time to view the stage and view from a safe position safety is paramount .Drive with caution and enjoy the event.
