Cork Camogie Star Ashling Thompson to Race At Mondello Park

This weekend at Mondello Park, the competitors in the Keelan Construction Fiesta Zetec Championship will have a new competitor in their midst.
Cork Camogie star Ashling Thompson, 29, will make her motor racing debut at the Kildare venue in association with Motorsport Ireland and Formula Female, the initiative set up by Hockey Star Nicci Daly to encourage more women into motorsport.
Thompson, who has won four All Ireland titles and two All Star Awards, has driven at Mondello just twice before- once at a charity time trial event, which she won, and once at the Formula Female One Lap Challenge. She has never raced, however, and this weekend she faces some experienced and highly talented drivers as she joins the biggest grid of the weekend for three races!

Rounds six, seven and eight of the Keelan Construction Fiesta Zetec Championship take place at Mondello Park in Kildare on June 7/8.

Ashling Thompson “I have always had a taste for Motorsport, even from a very young age. GAA has always been at the forefront of my career though. Now that I finally have the opportunity to race this weekend, I’m so excited for the challenge and looking forward to a new experience.”

Leo Nulty, Fiesta Zetec Championship Manager. “We have always wanted to run a celebrity car in the series and Ashling is the perfect candidate to start with. She is already quick behind the wheel and like all top sportspeople, has a hugely competitive edge. It’s a big ask, but I think she will go well. I would like to thank Mondello Park, Motorsport Ireland and Formula Female for their help in putting all this together.”
