ON THE ROAD- Alpine A110 crowned Motor Sport Magazine’s Car of the Year 2018

Already a multi-award-winner, the new Alpine A110 was crowned Car of the Year 2018 at Motor Sport Magazine’s Hall of Fame Awards last night.

The Alpine was praised by Motor Sport’s jury for being excellently engineered and a worthy successor to the A110 Berlinette of the 1960s and 1970s.

Motor Sport Editor, Joe Dunn, said: “The Alpine A110 is a worthy winner of our inaugural road car of the year. It lives up to its famous forebears and then some. In the words of Andrew Frankel, Motor Sport’s chief road tester: ‘It is a brilliant car, clearly conceived for all the right reasons and expertly engineered. It was probably the best car I drove last year’.”

The Alpine A110 is a lightweight and agile sportscar that weighs just 1080kg, yet has everyday usability whilst exuding French elegance. The Alpine A110 Première Edition was launched with 1,955 units (a number relating to the year the Alpine brand was launched) and all were reserved within hours of orders opening. Launched at Geneva 2018 were two new versions of the A110 – ‘Pure’ and ‘Légende’.

Alpine, having had success in motorsport previously, returned to front-line motorsport in 2013 in a collaboration with French race stable Signatech and won the European Le Mans Series title at its first attempt, and again in 2014. In late 2017, a racing version of the A110, the A110 Cup, was announced alongside a one-make series for the car taking in some of the most iconic circuits in Europe for a six-round ‘Alpine Europa Cup’ championship. Earlier in 2018, the Alpine A110 GT4 was launched, also based on the A110 road car. The A110 GT4 is eligible for the SRO European GT4 Series, the international Creventic 24 Hour series and many one-off races such as the Spa 24 Hours.
