#BillyWhizz to Make Comeback in BRDC F3 This Weekend!

Billy Monger will make his much awaited racing comeback at Oulton Park this weekend (31 March & 2 April), after confirming he will race in the BRDC British F3 Championship season opener at the Cheshire circuit with the Carlin team.

The 18-year-old, who has tested heavily with Carlin during pre-season as he recuperates from injuries suffered in a British F4 accident last April, will race at Oulton Park with the aim of generating sponsorship to fund a full season in British F3 with the team. 

Billy’s career was on an upward trajectory before his accident at Donington Park. He finished fifth overall in the 2015 Ginetta Junior Championship before moving to single-seaters in 2016 in the F4 British Championship.

He secured three podiums that year on his way to 12th overall in the standings, and remained in the series for 2017, taking two podium finishes from six races before suffering his life-changing injuries. Following the crash, Billy received widespread support from across the world, and messages from F1 stars Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Jenson Button.

His racing return in British F3 comes behind the wheel of a specially-adapted Tatuus Cosworth car, with a throttle on his steering wheel and a single pedal, brought right up from the foot well, used for braking with his prosthetic leg. Billy has been given special dispensation from championship organiser MSV, who are extremely keen to support his rehabilitation and return to racing.

Still adapting to his new controls, Billy was an impressive sixth fastest in the official media day test at Donington Park at the start of March, less than a second off the overall pace, and was 11th on his first visit to Spa Francorchamps last week.
