Harper Teams Up With JTR For Maiden Carrera Cup GB Campaign

Porsche GB Junior driver Daniel Harper has signed with leading team JTR for his maiden campaign in the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain.
The Northern Irishman has moved into the fastest one-make series in the UK for the next two seasons with manufacturer support, after being awarded one of the biggest scholarships in British motorsport with Porsche. After discussions with a number of teams over the last couple of months, Harper has teamed up with JTR (Joe Tandy Racing) as the team embark on their second season in the championship, following a sensational debut campaign in 2017. The Bedford-based outfit narrowly missed out on the driver’s title at the first attempt, securing no less than twenty-one podium finishes across the campaign and ending the year with three drivers in the overall top six and second place in the team’s championship.
The team are led by Porsche factory driver and 2015 Le Mans 24 Hours winner Nick Tandy, and prior to their entry into GT racing, they were hugely successful in single-seater racing with three successive British Formula Ford titles between 2012 and 2014.
Harper will begin a testing programme with the team soon ahead of the season opener at Brands Hatch on April 7/8.

Daniel Harper: “I’m delighted to be joining JTR for my first season in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and I’m looking forward to working with them. The team have had great success for many years and they made a massive impact in their first season in Porsches. The championship is incredibly competitive, so to come in and challenge for the title at the first attempt is hugely impressive. We talked to a number of teams over the winter, but we had some really positive discussions with JTR and it felt like the right team for us. Naturally, working alongside someone of the calibre of Nick Tandy is a huge opportunity for me. Hopefully with the support of Nick and the JTR team, we can build on their impressive 2017 season and enjoy some great success together this season.”

Nick Tandy – JTR: “As a race team we are always on the lookout for new talent. Daniel was selected as the new Porsche Junior driver because he showed the best ability and potential to be a future champion, so naturally JTR approached him with a view to joining our team. We are determined to have more success in Porsche Carrera Cup GB, and our drivers are absolutely key to that. Daniel will be teamed up with another three experienced drivers and I’m sure they will all work off each other to push for results. I personally really like the idea of coaching and mentoring another young driver within Porsche at JTR, who has a view to becoming a professional in the future. Who knows, we could be sharing a factory car and flights around the world together in the future.”

The news comes after Harper enjoyed his first public engagement with Porsche GB last month at the Autosport International Show, being a presence on their stand for all four days as well as getting interviewed on the main stage.
