MI Young Driver Carey Comes Home to Challenge for the Leinster Trophy

Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of The Year Cian Carey returns to Mondello Park for the first time in a year this weekend, as he bids to win the historic Leinster Trophy.
The Sport Ireland backed driver starred at the same meeting in 2016 when he charged up to third in atrocious conditions, matching the times of the two F3 cars ahead in his Formula Renault machine.  This time, at the wheel of his Chris Dittmann Racing Dallara-VW, the Meath man is a favourite for the big race, which takes place on Sunday afternoon. Mondello Park have hosted the running of the famous race since they opened their gates back in 1968 and should Carey be successful, he will add his name to a very exclusive list, which includes Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen, John Watson, Mike Hawthorn and many more.

Cian has had a mixed season in the UK F3 Cup series this year showing race winning pace but also having more than his fair share of bad luck, a catastrophic engine failure seriously damaging his championship aspirations mid season. A charge to third at Brands Hatch last Saturday though, showed that he is back on form.

Cian will be joined on the grid by CDR team mates Gino Ussi and Philip Jeans  for the weekennd.

Cian Carey,  Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of The Year:
“I am really looking forward to this weekend. It will be great to race the F3 car on my home circuit and in front of family, friends and sponsors. I love the International Track and I really want to ad my name to the exclusive list of Leinster Trophy Winners. As ever, I want to thank commercial partners Mooretown Engineering and F Brazil Reinforcements and a big thank you to Motorsport Ireland and Sport Ireland for their continued support!”
