Fenton Wins At Kirkistown And Still Leads Ginetta Junior Ireland Championship

16 year old Cameron Fenton took yet another win and maintained his championship lead as the Ginetta Junior Ireland series made its second visit of the year to Kirkistown in Northern Ireland recently. Having tested at the circuit the previous week, Cameron was confident he had closed the gap to rival Patrick Dempsey at the high speed circuit. The pair were closely matched in qualifying, but Dempsey’s superior straightline speed again allowed him to snatch pole position. When the lights changed though, Cameron made a perfect start to chop across the bows of Dempsey on the run to Debtors corner and never looked back, crossing the line for another dominant victory. In race two, the Greystones driver made what is becoming his trademark blistering start to once again lead away. This time though, Dempsey was closer and as feared, used his speed advantage a few laps in to draw alongside on the long back straight. There was a little contact, but mindful of his series lead, Fenton decided to opt for second as opposed to a possible non finish and so shadowed Dempsey home to ensure he left the venue with the championship lead intact.
Cameron Fenton: “I expected it to be damage limitation this time. We have lacked a little bit of straightline speed up here compared to the competition, so I’m delighted to have taken a win and maintained the series lead. I am looking forward to getting back to the twists and turns of Mondello this weekend, as we’ve dominated there so far!”
Cameron Fenton will be live on East Coast FM this Friday on the Morning Show with Declan Meehan at 10:30am. You can listen to the interview live HERE.
