Super GT Victory at Motegi Race 1 for Richard Lyons

It was a historic milestone win for Lyons and Audi Team Hitotsuyama in the SuperGT GT300 class today. The flawless performance and victory at Twin Ring Motegi has put Lyons and Team in with a fighting chance of clinching a championship win. Tomorrow will see the second race of the weekends double header play out to a packed Twin Ring circuit where all drivers will be racing with no handicap ballast in a straight up fight to the chequered flag. Lyons will be hoping to add the GT300 title to his cabinet to complete his hat trick of domestic Japanese titles, having already won the GT500 and the Super Formula titles.

Richard Lyons:

“What an amazing day! We scored our first win for Audi here at Motegi, which is also the place of my very first win in Super GT back in 2002! Dunlop, Audi, Hitotsuyama Racing and my team mate Fujii-San, all combined perfectly today to get us in with a shot of the title with one more race to go tomorrow. From yesterdays practice session I could see that we had great speed and that transformed into really good pace for Qualifying securing P2. When the lights went green in the race I was totally focused on doing whatever was needed to get us this win. Just before the pit stop we took the lead and showed our pace, my team mate Fujii-San gave a strong performance finish to secure the win. Tomorrow is a completely a fresh start again, but with this win under our belt and 9 points off the lead we have to be at least one of the favourites for the Championship win!”.
