#ALMS @MGriffinRacing Heads East after successful end to #ELMS
Irish racing driver Matt Griffin heads to China for the 1st round of the Asian Le Mans Series (ALMS) this weekend following a podium finish in the final round of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) held in Estoril, Portugal last Sunday.
Alongside team-mates Duncan Cameron and Aaron Scott, the Cork based GT driver piloted the number 55, AF Corse run Ferrari 458 GTE to 3rd place, giving the crew their 2nd consecutive ELMS podium after an eventful race.
“It was a wild race in Estoril, we suffered 2 punctures and an unscheduled pit stop in the 4h race and still came away with a podium. Within our team with Duncan, Aaron and myself, we have a never give up attitude. This season we have had way more then our share of bad luck but we keep digging and Estoril last weekend really showed that. Without the issues, I am really confident we would have won the race but this is motor sport so there are lots of variables. To finish the year with two consecutive podium finishes is really great’ explained Matt.
Griffin will now travel to China where he will join Clearwater Racing for the 1st of four Asian Le Mans Series races. This weekend’s race will be held at the Zhuhai International Circuit.
Singapore based Clearwater Racing are Asia’s top GT team and are the current ALMS champions as well as being multiple GT Asia champions.
It is a team that the Ferrari ace knows well having raced with them numerous times in the past. The driver line up will consist of Mok Weng Sun, Keita Sawa and Matt Griffin.
Matt continues “I am really excited to rejoin Clearwater Racing for this years Asian Le Mans Series, the competition is very tough but Clearwater Racing is a great team. We have a super strong driver line up in Mok Weng and Kieta Sawa, so all the ingredients are there to fight for the championship.
The weekend kicks off with free practice on Thursday and Friday, qualifying on Saturday and the 4h race on Sunday.
