GoCar launches new fleet of GoElectric automatic BMW Vehicles

Ireland’s leading car sharing initiative GoCar today launched its new GoElectric range in partnership with BMW which consists of a fleet of ten all new BMW i3 REX 94 Ah electric vehicles in addition to the 160 vehicles already on the GoCar fleet. The ten new electric vehicles will be available to the public at ten locations across Dublin City. This expansion of the GoCar fleet offering to include electric vehicles marks a key milestone in the company’s ongoing mission to provide the public with a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to car ownership.

The launch of the GoElectric fleet of BMW i3 vehicles comes at a time when demand for reduced and zero vehicle carbon emissions is growing amongst members of the public and certain Government departments. The launch of the GoElectric BMW range also marks the next step in GoCar’s continued promotion of convenient and environmentally friendly driving. GoCar hopes that the addition of premium electric vehicles to its regular vehicle range will boost the sharing economy culture in Ireland further and offer a convenient and sustainable transport option that is free from fuel, tax, NCT, and insurance costs.

Commenting on the launch of GoElectric, Colm Brady MD of GoCar said,

“Today marks a big day in the GoCar journey as we incorporate electric vehicles into our fleet. These vehicles are state of the art premium BMW i3 vehicles and are designed to make every driving experience an absolute pleasure. The BMW i3 is ideal for city driving and we have no doubt our members and indeed the general public will instantly fall in love with them.”

“Expanding our fleet offering to include electric vehicles has been a goal for us since we first launched GoCar. GoCar members have asked for both automatic cars and electric vehicles and we’re delighted to be able to deliver on both to individuals and companies. GoCar offers an extensive range of vehicles that caters to different user requirements and ultimately contributes to a positive sharing economy culture in this country.”

“GoCar is now giving Irish drivers the opportunity to experience an electric vehicle, without the upfront commitment of buying one. The hope is that this will allow members to experience electric vehicles, and if users enjoy the BMW i3, then more will be added to the service. This also brings the added benefit of increasing electric vehicle usage in Ireland.”
GoElectric bases will be situated at the following locations across the city: Point Village 3 Arena; South Lotts Road; Mark Street; Merrion Square; Clifton House Fitzwilliam Lower; Greek Street; St Johns Road West; Ranelagh; Parnell Square; Earlsfort Terrace. Each of the 10 designated bases will be equipped with two electric charge points to facilitate efficient battery recharging for users.

Paulo Alves Managing Director, from BMW Group Ireland added, “We are delighted to bring our partnership with GoCar to life with the new BMW i3 94Ah. GoCar’s car sharing service complements our strategy to promote the use of electric vehicles across the city with their GoElectric range. Dublin residents are demanding more transportation options and car sharing is a convenient choice to get around the city. We are now in a position to offer on demand, eco-friendly mobility when it is needed through this partnership. This partnership is a win-win for GoCar and its customers who get to experience a premium electric vehicle with extraordinary performance while being environmentally friendly. It is also a valuable partnership not just for BMW but for the motor industry as it raises awareness for electric vehicles not as cars of the future but cars of today.”
