Mondello Regulars All Set for Maxol Economy Drive!

This weekend Maxol will bring back the National fuel economy with the Maxol Economy Drive. Organised by Maxol and industry specialists Leo Nulty Promotions, the event starts at their state of the art M3 Mulhuddart Services from 9am on Sunday Morning.

Amongst the many competitors are a host of Mondello racers, keen to try their skills at a different type of driving. Heading these up is the newly crowned SEAT Supercup Ireland Champion Erik Holstein. The former showjumper and multiple motorsport champion will drive the all new SEAT Alteca from SEAT Ireland. Joining him will be Fiesta ST frontrunner Kevin Doran. the star of Mondello.tv will drive a Skoda Fabia from family business Doran Motors Skoda. ITCC production frontrunner Nicole Drought is also entered in the Hybrid class in a Honda Insight, whilst Global GT winner Paul Fitzpatrick joins her in that class in a Toyota Prius from The Crossings Toyota in Naas. Former multiple Supercar champion Johnny Whelan has been successful at these events before and he drives a BMW 330. Fiesta ST competitor and former Uno Cup Champion Coilin Clinton enters the new LCV class in his Junction 20 VW Transporter. Also in this class are Fiesta racer Bob Bryan in the Patch Tyre Equipment Opel van, Nicole Drought’s sponsor Phil Kearns in the 5 Star Valeting Ford Transit Custom and Fiesta Junior Champion Jack Byrne in an Astravan diesel.

Also on the entry list are Distributor entries from Fiat, Hyundai, Nissan and Peugeot. There is a fun award for the worst fuel Economy and chasing this are Patch Tyre Equipment boss Brian Matthews in a BMW 840i and Liam Moran in a 220bhp Fiat Coupé Turbo!

Upon signing on, competitors will receive details of the route, which includes a mixture of roads. Cars will then be filled to the brim and filler, boot and bonnet will be sealed by the scrutineering team. The first part runs in the morning and mileage will be taken from the cars at the finish and again as they depart. The event finishes mid afternoon at the same point at the start, when the cars will be refilled, calculations done and prizes awarded.

and there is also an optional Treasure Hunt/Social Media section, which competitors can choose to enter, with some novelty awards included to add to the fun!
