Griffin aiming to finish 2016 Blancpain Endurance Series on a high

Ferrari GT driver, Matt Griffin will take part in the final Blancpain Endurance Series (BES) race of 2016 at the famous Nurburgring circuit this coming weekend.

Griffin, who is the 2015 BES drivers champion (Pro-Am) along with teammate Duncan Cameron, is very much looking forward to being back at the famous German circuit located in the Eifel Mountains.

“The Nurburgring is one of the most iconic race tracks in the world.  While we will compete on the GP track instead of the mammoth Nordschleife it still presents plenty of challenges.  This will be my 6th time racing here so I know the track well” explained Matt.

The Cork based driver will again pilot the iconic British racing green number 55 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3.  Unfortunately a calendar clash resulted in missing the 2nd round of the championship and thus ruled out a championship challenge this year. There have however been good results for Griffin including a 2nd place at the 6hr Paul Ricard race and fighting for victory for the majority of the 24hrs of Spa only to be forced to retire with only 2.5hrs to go in the Belgian classic.

Matt continues “The Blancpain Endurance Series is a great championship and is definitely one of the toughest championships there is with grids of over 60 cars.  It was unfortunate that a calendar clash caused me to miss rd 2, but we have been very competitive in all the other races.  We were looking good for 22 of the 24hrs of Spa until we had to retire while in 2nd, it shows though that we have the speed so hopefully we can bring that to Germany this weekend”

Along with the BES the busy Irish racing driver has competed in the Dubai 24h, the Le Mans 24h and the is just over halfway through the European Le Mans Series, where he lies in 7th position in the championship with 2 rounds still remaining.

“Like usual 2016 has been busy and while on many occasions things have not really gone our way for example at Le Mans where I set the fastest race lap and were right there fighting for the win when we had a small mechanical issue. That’s racing though and I still have loads of confidence heading into the final part of the racing season including this weekend”

The 5th and final round of the Blancpain Endurance Series kicks off on the 17th of September with free practice at 11.05 CET, this is followed by Pre Qualifying at 16.15 CET. Qualifying takes place at 09.30 CET on Sunday with the main 3hr race starting at14.45 CET the same day.
