Polley Takes win Number Seven in E Fox Vee Championship!

Formula Vee returned to the fast Kirkistown circuit on the Ards peninsula for Round 8 of the E Fox Engineers National Championship. Dan Polley was looking to build on his dominant season so far but was pipped to pole position by championship rival Kevin Grogan, driving a Newsome Racing Sheane chassis for this weekend.

When the lights went out it was Grogan who led in the early stages until a safety car period to clear a damaged car from Colonial neutralised the race. At the restart Colm Blackburn seized the initiative and took the lead. However it was short lived as Dan Polley used all his experience to make the most of the slipstream on the long Kirkistown straights to take the lead on Lap 7. Colm kept the pressure on though, and the two traded the lead lap after lap.

Their dicing meant that Grogan in third position was all over the two leaders waiting for an opportunity to pass. On the last lap Blackburn made a brave move for the lead around the outside of Colonial but ran out of road on the exit and the resulting spin dropped him to 4th and out of contention for the win. Polley held on for the remainder of the lap to take his 7th win of the season in his LOH Motorsport Sheane.

Gavin Buckley followed the lead duo home to take his maiden podium in the National Championship. Behind the lead group there were several close battles that are typical of Formula Vee racing. Three cars were nip and tuck all the way through and at the flag it was Shane McBride who took 5th while Paula Moore pipped Anthony Cross to 6th by a tiny margin, just two thousands of a second!

In the earlier qualifying race it was Paula Moore who emerged victorious after a fantastic move at the hairpin on the penultimate lap to pass both Anthony Cross and Gavin Buckley. It was Cross who took second place to consolidate his position at the top of the Crowne Plaza Dundalk B championship.

Joe Power guided his GRRR Leastone to another comfortable win in the Finol Star of Tomorrow class to edge ever closer to the 2016 championship for new drivers.

Our next outing is at the Leinster Trophy race meeting in Mondello Park on September 17 th /18 th .
