Kalinecki And Sportchip.ie Clinch Second ITCC Title

Reigning Irish Touring Car Production Champion Grzegorz Kalinecki and his Sportchip.ie team made it two titles in as many years as they clinched the overall ITCC Supertouring Championship at Mondello Park last Sunday.

Having dominated the class for most of the year, Kalinecki was once again quickest in qualifying claiming the coveted pole position. Despite being beaten away again by the fast starting rear wheel drive cars, Grzegorz and the Turboman.ie backed Golf were back at the front within a few laps and went on to claim his sixth win of the season, and more importantly, the 2016 Teng Tools ITCC title. In race two, with the grid reversed as usual, Grzegorz enjoyed a spirited battle with Shane Rabbitt’s Mazda RX-7, before going on to take yet another win.

Having won the 2015 ITCC Production Class Championship in his Sportchip.ie built and run SEAT Leon, Grzegorz now becomes the first back to back champion in the series’ history.

Grzegorz Kalinecki, Sportchip.ie  “I’m delighted to have wrapped up the title with two rounds still to run. My team, as ever, have done a superb job- the car has been incredibly quick and 100% reliable. Next year, we will look to a new challenge, but as yet we are undecided on which class.”
