Adding to the growing grid of the Asian Le Mans Series, Pinnacle Racing Team (PRT Racing) has officially announced its entry in LMP3 for the 2016/2017 season running a Ginetta-Nissan prototype.
The Philippine-based team will compete in both the three-round Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup and the four-round Endurance Series, held on circuits located in Malaysia, China, Japan, and Thailand. Their campaign will be lead by PRT Racing team owner Ate De Jong who will drive the LMP3 machine shared with Ginetta factory driver Charlie Robertson.
De Jong began his motorsport career last year. He raced a full season in the Toyota Vios Cup one-make-race in the Philippines and participated in several outings in the Asian Karting Open Championship. This will be his first stint in closed-cockpit prototypes with PRT’s LMP3 entry.
Meanwhile, Robertson will lend his valuable experience to the team having won the 2015 European Le Mans Series’s LMP3 class championship in a similar Ginetta prototype. The 19-year-old Scottish driver also has two Ginetta Cup titles under his name before he was signed as a factory driver.
Accompanying PRT Racing on their LMP3 campaign are partners Pinbet88, Motul, Redmount Group, and P1 Racewear.
After acquiring the Ginetta-Nissan earlier this year, PRT Racing tested their new LMP3 machine at the Blyton Park Driving Centre in the UK last April. There, De Jong and Robertson clocked in valuable mileage behind the wheel to get it ready for the season opener in May.
Ate De Jong, PRT Racing Owner and Driver: “As a newly-established team, we’re very excited to make our debut at the Sepang International Circuit in a few weeks’ time. The team still has a lot to learn, but we hope to make our mark on the grid with our dedicated crew and my talented teammate Charlie Robertson. The Ginetta LMP3 has also proven itself to be a fast, reliable car and we’re definitely looking forward to challenge the other entries in LMP3.”
Charlie Robertson, PRT Racing Driver: “I’m very excited to be driving alongside Ate as part of PRT Racing. It’s a great opportunity for us to show what the Ginetta LMP3 car can do with a strong driver line up and a fantastic team behind us. My experience with the car in the European Le Mans Series will help us get off to the best possible start to the season. I can’t wait!”
All three rounds of the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup will be held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia where the opening round is scheduled from May 27 to 29, 2016. On the other hand, the Asian Le Mans Endurance Series’ 2016/2017 season will run from October 2016 until January 2017, visiting circuits in China, Japan, Thailand, and Malaysia.
