Butler further bolsters SEAT Champion’s title defence aspirations

Just 48-hours after the announcement that highly regarded touring car champion Erik Holstein has joined Murray Motorsport, the SEAT Supercup Ireland champions have further bolstered their title defence aspirations with the signing of Rob Butler.

A multiple Irish Touring car race winner, Butler further adds to the competitive 2016 season’s driver line up with Holstein one of the first to acknowlegde the potential of his new team-mate declaring ‘he will be quick’. A Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year nominee, the Navan driver had his first taste of the SEAT Sport built Leon Supercopa late last year when he attended a championship evaluation test day run by Murray Motorsport. Extremely impressed by the 301Bhp car, the former World Championship factory kart driver has since been working hard to secure a drive and is delighted to have been able to conclude a deal, albeit a last minute one, to contest the SEAT Supercup.

Commenting on the announcement, Butler said, ‘I’m looking forward to working with Eoin & Joe (Murray) given their vast experience & talent both on and off the track. A massive thanks to Murray Motorsport for making the deal possible. I am really looking forward to racing in Ireland’s premier touring car series against some high quality drivers.’

The opening two races of the 12-round SEAT Supercup take places this weekend (April 16/17) at Mondello Park and Butler will use his championship debut to highlight charity event Fund-Racer Ireland. Set to take place on May 27th at Mondello, Fund-
Racer is a Supercar track day run in aid of Irish Autism Action and The Jay & Ellie Foundation.

Butler teams up with former ITCC Champion Erik Holstein at Murray Motorsport.
