Billy Coleman to be reunited with “MEV36J” on Circuit Déjà Vu.

Billy Coleman will have a busy time during Circuit Déjà Vu 2016 next Easter in Killarney since he will also drive the Ford Escort MEV 36J which he used to win the British Rally Championship in 1974.
It was was built in 1971 and that year Hannu Mikkola drove it and retired on both the Hankirally and 1000 Lakes in Finland. In 1972 Timo Makinen used it to finish 2nd on the Artic Rally, Gilbert Staepelare and Guy Chasseuil both drove it in 1973, the best result being 4th by Chasseuil on Rally Corsica.
In 1974 Billy Coleman bought it and next day finished second In the Welsh Rally to Markku Alen in a “works” Escort. Billy went on to win the British Rally Championship that year. No privateer has since won the BRC title.
MEV will also be reunited with Dan O’Sullivan, Billy’s co driver, who now lives in London and Stephen Mills, one of his service crew during the ’74 Championship year. Steve will be coming all the way from Sydney, Australia for the event.
It is now owned by Mark Falvey in Killarney and he has had many successes with this car in Historic Rallying.
