Cian Carey Does The Double at Silverstone!

Rathoath’s Cian Carey took an incredible double win at the famous Silverstone circuit in the UK on Sunday. Driving his Mooretown Engineering 2.0 Formula Renault, the Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of the Year nominee qualified on pole position for the opening Monoposto race at the home of the British Grand Prix. In wet conditions, the Ratoath driver was an incredible three seconds ahead of his nearest competitor! With conditions dry for the race, and quicker F3 cars behind him on the grid, race one was never going to be easy. Carey held on though, despite huge pressure and drove a flawless defensive race to take an impressive first Silverstone win.
In race two, knowing the Dallara F3 cars had a performance advantage, Cian made the perfect start and got the head down to pull out a gap on cold tyres. In the closing stages, the three F3 cars had closed the gap significantly, but the Irishman held on for an incredible double.
“I’m absolutely over the moon with this result. My car was perfect all weekend and to beat the F3 cars in a Formula Renault on a circuit like Silverstone is amazing. We knew we had huge pace in the wet from qualifying but were not sure if we could hold them off in the dry. My Dad and the Mooretown team did a great job again today, the car was spot on!”
