Ratoath’s Cian Carey took his first win of 2015 at the Kirkistown Circuit in Northern Ireland on Saturday.
Driving his 2.0 Formula Renault, the Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of the Year nominee qualified second on the grid for the opening BOSS/Libre race at the former airfield circuit on the Ards Peninsula. In race one, he chased the faster Formula 3 car of Paul Dagg all the way to the flag, the duo crossing the line well clear of their closest opposition. In race two however, Carey was dominant, assuming the lead early on and going on to score a dominant victory, crossing the line over five seconds ahead of the runner up and setting fastest lap too.
“I am delighted to have won today. This is the first time we have run the car on brand new tyres and it was completely transformed. My dad and the Mooretown team did a great job today, the car was pretty much perfect!”
Cian’s next race is at the famous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit on September 12/13.
Cian Carey, 20, from Rathoath in County Meath races a Formula Renault single seater race car in the Irish Formula Libre (BOSS) series. He made his motor racing debut in the Irish Touring Car Championship aged just 16 and scored multiple podium finishes before graduating to single seaters in 2013.
Mooretown Engineering specialises in truck body building, hydraulic maintenance, fabrication, and servicing and was set up by Cian’s father Noel Carey 15 years ago.
