Roe is MI Young Driver of The Month – Motorsport.ie

James Roe Junior from Sallins has been selected as the Dunlop Young Racing Driver of the Month for July. The 16 year-old Kildare driver dominated the Ginetta Junior Ireland class at Mondello Park on July 11 and 12, starting both races from pole position, winning each time, and also setting a pair of fastest laps, which included a new class record for the circuit. This gave him the lead in the class championship, with four wins from the eight races so far.
Roe scored a number of placings in Junior Rallycross, switching to the Ginetta Junior class in 2014, and scoring his first win at the Leinster Trophy meeting on Mondello’s International circuit in September.
James’s sponsors are his father’s business, Roe Autocraft, in Naas, and John Sweeney, former owner of Sweeney Hopper Racing, with whose support he hopes to race in a UK single-seater series next year. James also very much appreciates the large amount of help and advice he has received in setting up his car, from his famous uncle, Michael Roe, the 1984 Can-Am champion.
James attends Newbridge College, where he will shortly be starting his 5th year studies.
Having been selected as the fourth Dunlop Driver of the Month for the 2015 season, James is now a contender for the prestigious Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Award and the historic Sexton Trophy. This award is presented annually and is supported by Dunlop, the Irish Sports Council and Motorsport Ireland.
