Kildare’s Jake Byrne had the perfect day in Kirkistown, Northern Ireland on Saturday as he took pole position and two strong wins in Formula Ford 1600.
Jake has established himself as one of the quickest Formula Ford drivers in Ireland and the UK this year and went to Kirkistown last weekend with the aim of winning both FF1600 races at the former airfield circuit. Having tested successfully in the week leading up to the race, Jake qualified his Punchestown backed Ray on pole position. Unfortunately, when the lights went out, the car appeared to die and when he eventually got going, he was last! Using his undoubted pace and impressive racecraft, he scythed his way through the pack to take an impressive win. Race two, with Jake again starting from pole position, was far less dramatic, with the ABR tended car crossing the line well ahead of his nearest challenger to take the double and increase his lead in the Northern Ireland FF1600 series.
Jake Byrne: “I’m very happy with those results. The start of the first race made it slightly more difficult but ABR gave me a good car and I put the head down and fought my way back to the front. The second one was a lot easier and now I’ve increased my lead in the Northern Ireland Series!”
Jake Byrne’s next race is back at Kirkistown on July 25th.
