LE MANS WINNING BMW M1 PROCAR TO STAR AT CAROLE NASH CLASSIC LIVE THIS WEEKEND

Ireland’s only Live Action Classic Car and Motorcycle Show, Carole Nash Classic Live takes place at Mondello Park this Sunday June 21st.
M1The annual Mondello Park event is sponsored by market leading specialist insurance broker, Carole Nash, who will be present at the event to talk to Classic Vehicle enthusiasts about all of their insurance needs. Also present will be event media partners Irish Vintage Scene who as usual will display some of the cover cars which featured in their magazine over the past twelve months.

The Live action at this Sunday’s (June 21st) Carole Nash Classic Live at Mondello Park will centre on a Le Mans GT winning BMW M1 from the circuit’s Motorsport Museum.

The BMW M1 Procar was driven by Mondello Park owner Martin Birrane to a GT class victory at the Le Mans 24 hour race in 1985 and is now part of Mr. Birrane’s collection which is permanently housed at the circuit’s Motorsport Museum.
The M1 started life as part of the Formula One supporting BMW Procar series, which ran in 1979 and 1980, and was originally driven by Hans Stuck. Stuck used the car to win the privateers championship in ’79 as well as finishing second in the overall series. Following the demise of the Procar championship the M1 transferred into GT racing and amongst its achievements was a GT class win at Le Mans in 1985 with Martin Birrane at the wheel. All of the cars from the collection will be available to view in the Mondello Park museum which will be open to show visitors free of charge. The museum houses an impressive collection of cars from Formula One, NASCAR, Sportscar racing and Indycar racing including the ex Jackie Stewart Lola which was demonstrated at last years Carole Nash Classic Live.
The M1 will be on display in the paddock during the event and will be taken on track for some demonstration laps. The remaining cars from the Museum’s collection will be available to view on the day with the Museum open to show visitors free of charge.
Keeping the track busy for the rest of the day will be demonstration races for Historic Cars and Motorcycles. The Dunboyne Club will organise three races for Classic Motorcycles as well as putting some of the club members vehicles on display. The Historic Racing Car association will have a bigCastrol Mug field of cars for their reunion event and their members will be on track twice as well as displaying their cars in the Mondello Park Pit Lane.  While the track activity is the focus of the show for many visitors, there will be plenty to see off track too, as Classic Live brings together Ireland’s Classic Vehicles clubs and owners to display their cars and motorcycles, with Classic Car owners having the opportunity to join the parade laps of the circuit behind the wheel of their own car! Alongside the vehicle displays there will be a trade area where exhibitors such as Carole Nash can be found along with the auto-jumble area. E Fox Engineers’ Paddock shop will also be open with the usual special offers on tools etc and if you spend €10 or more you will receive a Castrol Mug as a gift.
Admission to the event will be €12.50 for adults with under 16’s admitted free. For more information on Classic Car Live see mondellopark.ie/classic_live.
