Team Blackchurch Extends Fiesta Championship Lead

Ford Specialists, Blackchurch Motors last weekend extended their lead in the Mondello based Fiesta Series which they also sponsor. The Rathcoole based service and tuning firm came into the first double header meeting of the season unbeaten with their driver, Barry Rabbitt heading the points table. Rabbitt started from the outside of the front row on Saturday and made it a hatrick of victories after a first lap overtaking move on poleman Brendan Fitzgerald. Despite constant pressure, Rabbitt was able to bring the car home at the front of the 32 car field.

Starting from pole position in race two on Sunday the Blackchurch motors car dropped to second off the line but it didn’t take Rabbitt long to regain the lead, however with one eye on the championship the Co Meath driver didn’t fight too hard against an on form Brendan Fitzgerald who overtook the Autoglaze.ie sponsored Blackchurch machine on the run to 7a. Speaking after the race Rabbitt told how he was happy with points for 2nd place ‘I guess the unbeaten run had to come to an end at some stage so when Fitzgerald started to pile on the pressure I didn’t fight too hard as I’m conscious of the championship and the need to keep building points’

Jonathan Woods, Blackchurch Motors:  ‘That was another great weekend for our team, the lads in the garage work hard on the car between races and Barry does the business on race days, it’s a real team effort’

The next round of the series is back on the national circuit at Mondello Park on July 19th.
