Griffin looks forward to the start of the 2015 European Le Mans Series Championship

Ferrari GT driver Matt Griffin will head to the famous Silverstone Motor Racing circuit in Northamptonshire this weekend for the first round of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) in the 2015 calendar.

The Cork based Irishman and his regular teammate, Duncan Cameron, will be joined by Aaron Scott for the 2015 ELMS season. The trio will race the gutsy #55 Ferrari 458 GTE in the LMGTE class for the esteemed AF Corse Ferrari squad, a team that Griffin has driven with since 2008.

“We have had a very good testing program so far and I feel we are in good shape. It is also great to have Aaron joining Duncan and I, he is a very good driver and is the perfect addition to our team” noted Matt.

The European Le Mans series is a championship where Matt has seen a lot of success in recent years, including winning the championship in 2013 and finishing runner up last year.  In fact in the last 8 ELMS races Griffin has only finished outside the podium two times, a record he hopes to keep.

“The European Le Mans Series is a very strong championship, particularly in the GTE class; however, I’m sure we can fight right at the front.  I love racing at Silverstone, having been on the podium here for the last 2 years, this gives me loads of confidence.”

This weekend will be the 4th race so far this year for Matt; the Ferrari ace already has Dubai 24hr, Daytona 24hr and Bathurst 12hr under his belt and is feeling eager to get stuck in to the ever popular European Le Mans Series.

Along with the European Le Mans Series, 2015 looks set to be another typically busy year for Griffin competing in the Blancpain Endurance Series, the International GT Open, selected rounds of the FIA World Endurance Championship along with the GT Asia Series.  All races will be behind the wheel of a Ferrari 458.

“I have had a great start to the season and I really feel at the top of my game.  Of course the competition will be very very strong but with three successful races under my belt and a great team behind us, I think we will have a successful start to the ELMS.  Even though I have already raced this year, this weekend feels like the proper start to the 2015 season, which is looking very exciting for me. I can’t wait to get going” enthused Matt.

The weekend kicks off with free practice on Friday 10th April 2015, followed by a busy Saturday with qualifying at 11.05 GMT, an Autograph session will be held at 12.55 GMT and a grid walk at 14.05 GMT.  The 4 hour race begins at 14.30 GMT.  Motors TV will be showing live coverage of the event from 14.15 GMT and full coverage can also be found at radiolemans.com.
