Busy Motorsport Weekend- links to all the action!

Isn’t Easter a wonderful time of the year? The clocks have gone forward, the weather (theoretically) is getting better, we get a long weekend off- and it is packed with motorsport action! As I type this Rob Barrable and Craig

Barrable is embroiled in a hectic battle with Craic Breen for the lead of the Circuit- one they would both dearly love to win.

Breen are embroiled in a scrap of titanic proportions (pun intended) for the lead of the iconic Circuit of Ireland Rally.  Both of these guys have a huge sense of heritage and come from rallying families and a win would mean so much to them both. You can keep up with the action here.

The BTCC also kicks off at Brands Hatch and while all the talk in the UK media has been about Plato Vs Turkington at Team BMR, Aron Smith should be well capable of keeping both the former and current champion honest and has more experience of the Passat than both to boot. The battle in that team should be enthralling and will more than likely happen at the front of the field too. Karl Leonard also starts his Carerra Cup UK campaign with Parker Motorsport at the same meeting and should be a good bet for a Pro Am 1 win. ITV4 will show all the action tomorrow- and if you have UPC and can’t access the coverage, fear not- you can get ITV4 on your phone or laptop here. Live timing all weekend is available here.

Other action this weekend includes the BRSCC FF1600 season opener on the Silverstone International circuit and both Motorsport Ireland Young Driver winner Jonny McMullan and Jake Byrne (complete with Punchestown Racecourse backing) are both entered. They were both bang on the pace yesterday so hopefully one of them can do the job and take the trophy home! You can follow all the action at Silverstone here.

On the Silverstone National circuit, former Uno, Punto and Abarth champion Alistair Kellett makes his UK Fiesta debut in class D of the BRSCC Fiesta series. He has built two of these cars over the winter through his Kellett Motorsport business- one for himself and one for Barry Hallion and both intend to tackle as much of the Championship as possible. Hallion is not on the entry list for this, the season opener but he will be on the grid for round two, alongside team boss Kellett. As I type this, Alistair  is leading his class and 8th overall in practice session 1. You can follow the action here.

Wayne Douglas’ Douglas Motorsport Team divides itself between two circuits this weekend with their F4 pairing of Akhil Rabindra and Fernando Urrutia both running in the top six in yesterday’s official test at Oulton Park, whilst Sean Woods has been drafted in to help with the running of the Ginetta element of the team at Brands Hatch. This strategy is obviously working as their Ginetta Junior driver Stuart Middleton is currently seventh. in the first test session of the weekend!

Andrew Watson also makes his McLaren debut (how cool does that sound?!) this weekend as the British GT series kicks off at Oulton Park in Cheshire. Below is a clip of Andrew’s hopes ahead of the event and you can follow the Oulton action here.
