Sean Doyle takes double win on Supercar Championship début

Wicklow’s Sean Doyle made a winning start to the new Motor Racing season with a double victory in the new ASK Supercar Championship at Mondello Park on Sunday March 15th. Starting from pole position the 21 year old stormed to two wins despite brake problems throughout both races.

Having concentrated on single seater racing for two seasons Seán was approached by Alan Kessie to drive in the new for 2015, ASK Supercar championship. The former Rallycross and Formula Ford racer saw it as a great opportunity to kick start his new career in GT Racing and jumped at the chance to once again get behind the wheel of an RT2000 car. Previous drives in a similar car had yielded a Time-Attack win and an endurance racing class win.

Doyle was strong from the start of qualifying, immediately jumping to the top of the time sheets ahead of fellow single seater convert Peter Barrable and experienced GT racer Bob Cameron. The newcomer was in fantastic form and ended qualifying more than a second clear of anyone else to take pole for both races.

Having dropped back at the start of Race 1 Doyle was happy to see the red flag come out. He made a better fist of the re-start to take a lead he would not lose. By half distance he was having to pump the brakes on the straights to ensure they worked when he reached the braking area, but even this could not stop him as he pulled away to win by almost ten seconds from Cameron.

Race two followed a similar pattern with Doyle leading from the green light and early pressure coming from Barrable. Once again brake problems surfaced but the Wicklow Town resident had enough in hand to maintain a lead over Barrable of almost four seconds at the flag.

Following race two, Doyle expressed his delight at his strong start to the season, saying, “It’s a great start to the year. I have to thank Alan Kessie and ASK Racing for providing me with this opportunity and I am delighted to be able to repay him with two wins and full championship points after the opening weekend. I also need to thank my sponsors and supporters, SKC Providers, Wicklow Tyre Services, PMP, Nissan Ireland and BOSS Security, without whom I would not have been on track today”.

The next round of the championship takes place at Kirkistown Co. Down on April 25th. Until then you can follow Seán at facebook.com/seandoyleracing,twitter.com/seandoyleracing and instagram.com/seandoyleracing and watch a replay of his wins on Mondello.TV.
