Below is a statement released last night by The Formula Vee Association:
“Following three very successful Formula Vee Festivals where over 45k was raised for children’s charities, Formula Vee Ireland has announced that they will not be in a position to run a Festival in 2015, citing increased costs as the principal reason for having to cancel this season’s event.
Having seen an initial 34% increase in competitor entry fee for the Festival weekend, the Festival committee polled all 35 drivers who competed in Formula Vee in 2014.
With only two competitors signalling that they were happy with the increased costs, the organisers felt there was little point in running the event. Discussion with a new Festival sponsor also concluded in the decision not to run a Festival in 2015.
Paul Heavey, whose original idea led to the Formula Vee Festival, said “It is very disappointing to cancel the event this season. We have worked very hard over the last three years to grow the event into Ireland’s biggest circuit racing event with a weekend of racing, family entertainment and general goodwill for charity. We couldn’t have done any of this without the generous support of our fellow competitors and their supporters. I feel that Irish motorsport and the charities are the real losers with us having to cancel the event.
Rumours are surfacing of Mondello Park running a “Fiestaval” in place of the Formula Vee Festival. We wish them well and hope it continues with the charity element and returns numbers to the paddock in a similar fashion to the Formula Vee Festival over the last three seasons. Finally, I’d like to say a particular thanks to Finol and Dunlop who were previous title sponsors.”
Formula Vee was introduced to Ireland in the mid 70’s as a low-cost single-seater racing class and has become the biggest, most exciting single-seater racing formula in Ireland today. For more information on Irish Formula Vee, click here: http://www.formulavee.ie
