BREAKING NEWS- Major boost for Leon Supercup as Niall Quinn joins growing grid

In a major boost for Ireland’s new Leon Supercup, former A1 Grand Prix reserve driver & Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Niall Quinn has announced that he will make his return to racing by contesting the inaugural championship for Seat sport’s successful 301bhp Leon Supercopa. With the introduction of the Leon Supercup bringing about a revival of interest & an air of excitment in Irish motor racing, the confirmation of the now 26-year-old former Red Bull Junior driver adds huge merit to burgeoning championship. Only announced last month, with the opening round scheduled for the weekend of May 8-9 on the international layout of County Down’s Bishopscourt circuit, already seven cars have been purchased for the 10 round championship with that number set to grow with further driver announcements imminent.

Commenting on his decision to return to racing by committing to the Leon Supercup, Quinn said, ‘When I read the announcement that the Leon Supercup was starting it was the first time in a while that something really grabbed my attention and it sparked my interest in making a return to racing.’ Having had the opportunity to view the Murray Motorsport run Leon of Barry English, the Dunboyne native said, ‘straight away I could see these are proper touring cars. Seat Sport have built an impressive car and for their high level spec they offer exceptional value for money. He continued, ‘I think the timing of the championship [introduction] is just right for the country and with a great buzz about the cars I am really excited to be a part of it from the start’. Currently seeking to partner up with a suitable title sponsor for his return to racing, Quinn will officially unveil his campaign in the lead up to the opening round of the Leon Supercup – the championship this year running as part of the MicksGarage ITCC.

Championship Manager Oisin O’Briain, who himself was drawn back into motorsport by the Seat Leon Supercopa and Seat Sport’s commitment to establishing a championship in Ireland, said, ‘We are delighted that a driver of Niall’s caliber had enough confidence in a completely new championship that he has gone off and bought his own car. Having been working with Niall for a few weeks I am delighted we can now officially announce he will contest the Leon Supercup as it is sure to help in getting other potential drivers who have been in contact to commit for 2015.’
