Tohill Concludes 2025 Rallycross Programme in Style as FIA Euro RX returns to Ireland!

Newly crowned 2025 British Rallycross Champion Derek Tohill concluded his and PFCRX’s 2025 rallycross programme with a dominant performance at the latest instalment of the 2025-2026 Irish Rallycross Championship at Mondello Park (November 29-30).

With the double-header run in typically mixed winter rallycross conditions and a range of new and returning drivers to the headline Supercar category, the weekend posed a challenge for all concerned, and was far from a forgone conclusion, despite Tohill entering the third and fourth rounds of the campaign with the points lead in search of a record 10th straight Irish crown.

Running the coveted GB1 number on the side of the Peugeot 208 WRX, having secured the 5 Nations BRX crown for a second time at Lydden Hill in early November, Tohill, PFCRX and DA Racing set about scoring as many points as possible from the challenging weekend.

Using the opportunity to also assess minor refinements to the tried-and-tested 208 concept, double European Rallycross Champion Tohill dominated the double-header to take a brace of Supercar final victories and a pair of all-important Superfinal wins, to extend his margin at the head of the IRX Championship table, and conclude the rallycross year in the best possible way.

In the week leading up to the event, it was also confirmed by the FIA that the European Rallycross Championship would return to Mondello Park in Ireland on July 18-19 next year for the first time in 30 years as part of a six-event schedule for the discipline’s highest-level next year, a huge boost for rallycross in the country.

Meanwhile, in the days following the Mondello weekend, Tohill collected his prize for securing the 2024-2025 IRX crown earlier this year, at the Motorsport Ireland Champions of Motorsport Awards.

“What a brilliant way to end an unbelievable season. It may have looked relatively straightforward on paper, but in reality, it was really challenging to carve out these results. The DA Racing team worked incredibly hard to give me a car that could deal with Monte Carlo style slippery and cold conditions, but the team kept plugging away, and we did our best with what we had at our disposal. I cannot thank DA Racing, the PFCRX crew, and all of our partners for all their hard work all season long, magnifique! I am very happy for all the team to finish the season on such a positive note. It will take a bit of pressure off in the second half of the IRX season, where we can try some different ideas without the pressure to win. I cannot wait for next year.

DA Racing presented me with a beautiful new Stand 21 race suit in Mondello Park to celebrate our 5 Nations BRX title. I’m very grateful to DA for this beautiful gift, and I hope to wear it with pride in 2026 and beyond.

We had some incredible official news pre-event that the FIA European Rallycross Championship will return to Ireland next year – this is monumental for Rallycross in our country. 100% it was Euro RX events that led me to competing at European level, but I have never experienced a home round in all my years competing in the European and World Championships. To have a round in Ireland is fantastic for the sport, both in the short and long term. I’m under no illusions that the success of the event will require massive effort from the wider motorsport and rallycross communities, and from our ASN, Motorsport Ireland. The European and French national round in Loheac has over 700 volunteers to make it happen; that’s a small indication of what is involved in running these high-profile events. We have an even bigger task, as we have not hosted a round on this scale in 30 years, so I hope everyone can pull together to create a must-have event and venue for the championship for many more years than just 2026! The work is obviously already well underway, but there’s a hell of a lot to do going forward. Let’s go!”
