Wasting no time, Leong executed a sharp and decisive move on his out lap to move into second position.
Just one lap later, Leong found his opportunity to strike again — this time passing Gavin Huang, Cecotto’s teammate, with a clean and clinical move to claim the race lead. From there, the young Macanese driver controlled the pace and never looked back, pulling clear to take his maiden Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia victory by the comfortable margin of 12 seconds and deliver a stunning win for SJM Theodore Racing.

Race 2 tomorrow will see the team line up on pole position, with Leong having topped Q2 in an impressive qualifying performance earlier today.
Charles Leong:
It’s very important to have the package right and the from the first lap, I was just really confident with the car and everything. After I passed the number two car, it was just about managing the whole race and I think we still had a handful of pace in hand. Yeah, it’s really good. It’s a very positive start and huge thanks to SJM Theodore Racing again. It’s amazing to work with Alex this year.
Alex Denning:
Yeah, we got off to a good start. I had to make a couple of phone calls to see was if it actually possible to go around the outside of turn one! It was possible, but I didn’t realize there was a third guy on my left. So yeah, as soon as the two guys got past, I just went straight into management mode to keep the car for Charles. I always knew that the second stint was going to be more important. Huge thanks to SJM Theodore Racing and Lamborghini for a great car. It’s the first weekend here and we couldn’t be happier to take the win.
Teddy Yip Jr., Team Principal – SJM Theodore Racing:
“I’m incredibly proud of the entire team for today’s result. Alex drove a composed and intelligent first stint to keep us right in the fight, and Charles delivered a truly impressive performance to take the lead and control the race from the front. It’s a fantastic way to start the season and a great reward for the hard work everyone has put in. Congratulations to both drivers on a well-earned win, and we look forward to seeing what they can do from pole position in Race 2 tomorrow.”
