Lakeland Tyres Launch New Belfast depot! – Motorsport.ie

Fermanagh company- Lakeland Tyres has embarked on an exciting new venture having now officially launched its new depot in the Belfast area. The Mallusk Road in Newtownabbey is the location, in what is a big venture for the expanding company that has its roots in the West.

The new depot is providing jobs, bringing the group’s employment total close to sixty, with the Lisnaskea and Enniskillen depots thriving, and an ever growing haulage service business.“ It’s a big thing for us to start up in the Belfast area” said Adrian Frazer- Managing Director of Lakeland Tyres. “We hope that the people around Belfast will enjoy the level of service and value that we offer here in Fermanagh. It is great to have a base in Belfast to service our existing commercial work, and to be able to further develop that side of the business.”

The new 18,000 square foot depot has the latest state of the art equipment, with car, van and 4×4 bays at the front and two purpose built truck bays at the side. A further seven new vans have added to the Lakeland Tyres fleet, bringing the total up to 27 as the company continues to offer a rapid 24 hour break-down response service to both private and commercial customers, in the UK, Ireland and Europe.

The family run business dates back to 1970, when the first depot opened in Pound Lane- Lisnaskea and there has been rapid expansion in the past ten years. Now it has four main depots in Northern Ireland, the Derrychara Road branch near Asda and Tesco in Enniskillen, the purpose built 30,000 square foot Lisnaskea head-quarters, the second largest tyre depot in the UK, and another new depot in Carn Industrial Estate- Portadown. “It’s thanks to the continued support of our customers in Fermanagh that we continue to develop.

It’s all very exciting for the business, and it’s a credit to the great team we have around us and our many valued customers and suppliers” said Adrian.

Lakeland Tyres Mallusk Launch- Adrian Frazer- MD of Lakeland Tyres with Lee JohnstonThe Belfast launch was attended by the Lakeland Tyres motorsport team, and hosted by RPM’S Alan “Plum” Tyndall and entertainment hosted by “Uncle Hugo” Duncan. Road-Racer Lee Johnston, a NW200 winner and TT podium finisher this year was the star attraction, as he spoke the night before the Ulster Grand Prix. “It’s great to see Lee doing so well, and to have the association with Lakeland Tyres” said Adrian. “I have known Lee and his family for a life-time, and I believe that he has a bright future ahead in motorcycling. Motorsport is a passion of mine, it fits well with our brand, and it’s great to see so much local talent on two and four wheels.”

Five Times Irish Tarmac Rally Champion- Eugene Donnelly, also the General Manager of Lakeland Tyres commented “I humbled to be amongst so many talented competitors. Having been involved with Lakeland Tyres for five years now, and on a personal basis, I would like to thank Adrian and the team for their support in competition but also in making it possible for us to open this fantastic new facility here in Mallusk.”

Other motorsport stars included Queen of Europe Drift Champion- Danielle Murphy, and Jonny “MCL” Irwin who are competing regularly across Europe with great success. The future generation of motorsport stars were represented by Kart, Quad Champion, and Junior Rally winner- 14 year old Daniel Harper, Junior rally competitor-15 year old Karl Johnston, and Junior drifter- Jack Irwin who is just 6! The night also raised money for the NI Children’s Hospice- a very worthy cause that Lakeland Tyres is delighted to support.
