BREAKING NEWS- Jordan Dempsey is MI Young Driver of The Year

Jordan Dempsey from Mullingar, was today named as the Motorsport Ireland/Sport Ireland Young Driver of The Year.  The Westmeath driver will receive €50,000 to support his career.

Jordan raced in Formula Ford 1600 in both the UK and Ireland in 2017, taking his first UK Championship this year too. However, because his racing season had a late start due to his on preparations for the Leaving Certificate examinations, Jordan was not a contender for the British title despite showing race-winning pace, as he missed the first half of the season. As an added bonus this year, he subsequently received an award for obtaining the highest Leaving Cert marks in his school, Mullingar Community College this year.

Jordan is the third generation of the Dempsey family to race successfully. His grandfather Morgan was GT and Modsports winner, whilst his father Morgan Jnr was a single seater star in the early 1990s- winning in FF1600 and Formula Opel-Lotus. Jordan’s sponsors are Tim Buckley Race Management and his father Morgan’s company, Motorsport Car Preparation, where he has been working during the summer.

He began Karting at the age of 9, switching to cars in 2014 when he contested the Ginetta Junior class. He was Ginetta champion the following year, before graduating to Formula Ford in 2016. He is particularly happy at taking that Ginetta title, achieved against strong opposition, with the Mullingar driver setting three class lap records in the process.

Jordan succeeds 2016 winner Cian Carey, who win his first Formula 3 race in the UK in 2017 and continues in that class for 2018.
