As the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship heads to Northern Italy for the fifth round of the season, anticipation is building for Jack Kennedy and Team Profile Racing. The Triumph Daytona 675 is a completely new bike to Jack and he will need to familiarise himself quickly for his first outing tomorrow during ‘timed’ free practice 1 at the iconic Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari Imola circuit.

The world Supersport championship is a fiercely competitive series and proving to be somewhat unpredictable this season with four different winners from four races, Sofuoglu, Mahias, Caricasulo and Rolfo. There will be a lot of home support for the Italian riders at the difficult, tight and twisty track but four time winner at Imola, Sofuoglu, is always a force to be reckoned with. Imola has been a track earmarked by riders as the most challenging to come through the pack. The circuit is one of contrasts with the open section of high speed left-right combinations eventually giving way to the middle of the lap, where the track is much tighter and technical.

FIM Supersport World Championship rules differ to British Supersport in that all free practice sessions are timed with the ten fastest riders going directly to Superpole 2 while the riders classified 11th to 20th take part in Superpole 1. The fastest two riders from SP1 progress to Superpole 2 making a total of 12 riders competing for the first 12 grid positions. Both SP1 and SP2 run for 15 minutes each. They also run flag to flag races, meaning Supersport motorcycles can change tyres during a race when conditions change.
