Kildare Road Safety Ambassador Jake Byrne Wins Again!

Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of The Year Jake Byrne returned to Mondello Park last weekend and once again took the top spot on the podium.

On a break from his UK FF600 campaign, Jake jumped into one of the family ABR Team Global GT Lights and despite not having tested, qualified second, ahead of most of the series regulars. In the opening race, Jake assumed the lead early on and wasn’t headed on the way to a dominant victory.

In race two, the Trinity College graduate made the perfect start to lead the pack away. Series leader Max Drennan though, had fitted new slick tyres in order to challenge and he assumed the lead mid race. Jake closed down the gap in the closing stages, but having being baulked by a backmarker on the final lap, had to settle for second.  These results bring Jake’s late season tally to an incredible 8 podiums from 9 finishes.

Jake Byrne, Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of the Year/Kildare Road Safety Ambassador: “I enjoyed that. It was fun to jump back into a Global. Two wins would have been nice but my tyres were  past their best- and I am delighted with two more podium finishes- I’m making a habit of that now!”
